North Jersey
has DSL Connections Available
Thru a Number of Internet
Service Providers.
The below providers each include
on their web sites a search utility that can confirm DSL service
at your location. This is typically based on your area code and
the first three digits of your telephone number. (Your "exchange.")
NOTE: Data rates are priced at 416K.
Lesser data rates can be purchased from each vendor for considerably
less money per month, and upgraded as needed with only a phone
call. Pricing starts, for any SDSL business service, at $150
per month and up.
NOTE:
Verizon's $50 per month "Business
DSL" ADSL service has been obliterating the competition.
Although Cable Modem is much faster, users who don't have access
to the $100 per month Cable Modem business services or wish to
pay less have been satisfied with Verizon's service. The lack
of a permenant IP address is resolved with Dynamic DSL services,
as those offered from dyndns.org
or tzo.com.
Many ISP's now resell Verizon's services, marking
up the price and installing fixed IP addresses to imitate traditional
DSL. Before purchasing a DSL connection, inquire if it is ADSL
or SDSL- If it is an SDSL connection, odds are you are buying
a resold (and enhanced) Verizon DSL connection.
The list below may be considered
useful, but is seriously out of date. As of 12/15/03, consolidation
and business failures has made much of this information invalid.

*NOTE: Verizon's ADSL is an additional
service added to an existing POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service)
line, such as a FAX line. It is fast to install, and apparently
gives reasonable service for a very low rate. DSL charges are
added to any current telephone charges. Verizon has a very cost-aggressive offer for
their ADSL service. There are no assigned IP addresses with this
service which limits Incoming features. Dynaminc DSL is required
to use thislink for remote access to the office network, and
you will not be able to effectively run an SMTP Email server
such as Exchange with this service. If cost and download performance
are the most major considerations, the premium (7.1M / 680K)
Verizon
service may be considered.
Note that we prefer cable modem over Verizon
DSL for many reasons, including speed. However, Verizon has a
very aggressive product that has effectively limited most competition.
